Quantum mechanics of spin transfer

    We consider the interaction of an spin-polarized electron wave packet with a Heisenberg spin chain. By using a density matrix formulation of the time-dependent problem, we show how a current interacts with the spin chain.

    If we look only at the first electron, it is possible to increase the number of spins in the chain and calculate reflectance and transmittance for each spin component. We show that by tuning the spin coupling one can switch between spin polarizations of the electon. (paper in progress)
